Bio
Tyler McCoy is an American artist raised in Crown Point, Indiana, and attended Purdue University in 2022, where he began studying Art Education and Art History. He received a Bachelor’s degree in both Studio Arts & Technology as well as Art History.
His work explores how absurdity can serve as a framework for understanding the human condition. Using ceramic sculpture in combination with illustrations and photography to translate his own experiences. Tyler strives to create work that avoids clarity and images that feel raw and invasive. He explores how clay can function as both image and object, particularly when placed in conversation with photography. While focusing on how these two mediums, both historically marginalized within the gallery space, combine two and three dimensionality to complicate and complement one another.
